Most times, it’s like the curve of the earth: so gradual, you can’t really perceive it directly, first-hand. You know it’s there because there’s a horizon, but you can’t actually see the bend yourself.
But every once in a great while, you actually can see the arc of the moral universe bending towards justice. Every once in a great while, if you’re paying attention, you can see history pivoting and changing, permanently and for the better, with your own eyes, instead of reading about it in a history book.
This is one of those times.
Other people have already said it better than I could, and sooner, but if you haven’t already done so, read Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision in the Prop. 8 case in its entirety for yourself. You’ll be able to tell your children that you were a witness to history as it was being written. This one’s for you, Loafy. I love you.
