The New York Times is reporting that David Wildstein, one of two Chris Christie appointees at the center of the “bridgegate” scandal, is now saying Christie knew about the GWB lane closings:
The former Port Authority official who personally oversaw the lane closings on the George Washington Bridge in the scandal now swirling around Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey said on Friday that the governor knew about the lane closings when they were happening, and that he had the evidence to prove it.
I suppose it remains to be seen whether Wildstein is telling the truth, and whether his evidence holds up to both public scrutiny and legal discovery. But without having seen the evidence, I’d say unless it doesn’t, Christie’s goose is entirely cooked at this point. He won’t ever be President, and he may actually face criminal charges and/or be forced to resign the governorship of New Jersey before the end of his just-won term.
