Feinstein: Spying is bad when it happens to ME

Dianne Feinstein (D-NSA) is shocked – SHOCKED! – that gambling spying is going on!

Uh…What I MEANT To Say Was…

Feinstein three weeks ago (on the NSA spying on Americans, and Edward Snowden revealing it):

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) offered a full-throated defense of the government’s collection of data on billions of American phone calls, saying Wednesday that the National Security Agency’s practices have safeguarded the nation without trampling on civil liberties.

Feinstein this week (on the CIA spying on her and her staff):

Feinstein, who said she was making her statement “reluctantly”, confirmed recent reports that CIA officials had been accused of monitoring computer networks used by Senate staff investigators. Going further than previously, she referred openly to recent attempts by the CIA to remove documents from the network detailing evidence of torture that would incriminate intelligence officers.

She also alleged that anonymous CIA officials were effectively conducting a smear campaign in the media to discredit and “intimidate” Senate staff by suggesting they had hacked into the agency’s computers to obtain a separate, critical internal report on the detention and interrogation programme.

It hardly needs to be said, but if anyone’s still unclear, this is a particularly vivid example of one of the main things wrong with our political class, Republicans and (unfortunately) Democrats.
